Gallery in the Woods.

A Project done within the Design 1 Course at the Institute of Building Design at TU Graz.
The assignment was to create a Gallery or Exhibition Space in the highlands around Graz. A site was given and the minimum requirements for the gallery: an exhibit hall, a conference room and an office. The concept was to divide the various functions in separate buildings connected through a sheltered court in the middle. In order to accentuate the displayed artwork, the buildings are enclosed with no side openings. Natural light is brought in through openings on the roof of the buildings, as followed by the design. In order to complement its surroundings and to bring forward the character of the building, the facade is composed of dark wooden tiles to contrast the interior of the building. Overall, the design was inspired by the traditional Austrian architecture in the region.
